Tin thêm về anh Lê Anh Vững

Tất cả anh em thân mến,

Vừa nói chuyện với anh VỮNG qua điện thoại cách đây 30 phút, mình xin báo cho anh em khắp nơi biết thêm tình trạng sức khoẻ của anh Vững.

Cách đây khoảng 3 tuần (lúc đang còn ở trong bệnh viện) anh Vững cân nặng khoảng 99 lbs. Mấy ngày trước đã lên lại 107 lbs. Hôm nay, chưa cân lại xem như thế nào.

Vết thương mổ ở bụng dài khoảng 20 cm đã lành, lành nhanh hơn dự tính, mặc dầu anh Vững mang chứng tiểu đường (diabete) đã 6 năm nay. Thông thường, người bị tiểu đường sẽ cần thời gian lâu để các vết thương, vết mổ được lành. Trước đây, chỉ ăn cháo và hay bị nôn... Ăn uống lúc này cũng bắt đầu khá hơn.

Ðể làm chemo-therapy, bác sĩ phải đặt một hệ thống đặc biệt để có thể chuyền hóa chất vào trong cơ thể, anh Vững đã qua giai đoạn này một vài ngày... Cần thêm một vài ngày nữa để vết thương lành hẳn, sau đó mới tính đến việc chemo-therapy... Tinh thần của anh Vững xem ra lạc quan...

Anh Vững xin chuyển lời cám ơn tất cả các anh em xa gần đã cầu nguyện. Có lẽ nhờ đó mà vết thương của anh Vững lành nhanh hơn dự tính... Anh Vững cám ơn những anh em gần đã vào thăm ở bệnh viện cũng như tại nơi cư ngụ của anh hiện nay: Huệ, Trọng, Vinh, Ðương, Trung, v.v...

Anh Vững xin anh em tiếp tục cầu nguyện để bác sĩ và y tá có thể làm những gì tốt nhất cho anh trong lúc này. Cũng xin cầu nguyện cho anh đủ sức chấp nhận những gì đã, đang và sẽ xảy đến cho anh.

Pray for our Sick

Bill Shea (Epworth) was admitted to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque on Thursday. Apparently he had an adverse reaction to one of the medicines he is taking. They will build his strength back up over the next couple of days, and hopefully he’ll be out of the hospital soon.

Joe Miller of the Western Province sent this message yesterday:

We received sad news today regarding province member Paul Vung Le. He went to emergency at St. Jude's Medical Center in Fullerton, where they then rushed him to emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction. They were able to remove the obstruction but discovered cancer that had spread throughout. He is resting comfortably and his family who live in Riverside have been to visit him. Dennis Flynn and Bill Caffrey who both work at St. Jude's and some other SVD have visited.

Paul was one of the first Vietnamese SVD ordained in the U.S. and he came to the Western Province in 1987. After serving at Riverside, St. Anthony and Our Lady of Loretto, he is now a chaplain at Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk.

Please lift him and his dad in prayer. They lost his mom recently.

Let’s keep them and all our ill confreres in our prayers.

Storms in the South

Jim Pawlicki of the Southern Province sent this report:

Just some news about the severe storms that ravaged Arkansas and Northern Mississippi and made national news.

Richard Zawadski is okay in Little Rock. Nevertheless he had quite an experience. A tornado that had ravaged North Little Rock came within 100 yards of his house. He is okay but has no electricity at the present time. You will have to contact him via cell phone. He says power may be out for a couple of days.

Lou Jessing is okay in Vicksburg. Storm wind gusts of 70 miles an hour brought torrential rain but he had no tornadic activity. He has electricity.

Richard Kalinowski in Jackson experienced softball size hail pelting his house. He is okay and has electricity. People in other areas were not so fortunate.

Let's remember all those who are suffering and experiencing hardship.
