Awarded the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland awarded the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries for its outstanding contribution to he promotion of Poland in the World. The 2005 Awards giving ceremony took place on the 26th of September 2006 in the Belvedere Palace at Warsaw. Mrs. Anna Fotyga, the Minister of Foreign Affairs awarded ten prize winners: The German Polish Institute of Darmstadt, The Chopin Theatre in Chicago, The HOPE Association in Kazakhstan, The Fine Art Gallery of Lvov in the Ukraine, The Hungarian Satellite Television “DUNA”, The City of Wroclaw, the Polish-British Historical Committee, The Tomasz Stanko Quartet, The International Cultural Center in Krakow, and last but not the least The Society of the Divine Word Missionaries.
In the laudatory speech we learnt that the Government of Poland noticed the Society by for its extraordinary missionary work among immigrants and refuges emphasizing that the Divine Word Missionaries take up not only pastoral duties and responsibilities but also initiate and organize project for social and humane development. Thus mentioned by name was late Fr. Marian Zelazek, an outstanding missionary in India, once a candidate for the Noble Peace Price.
Though not explicitly mentioned, the Award had come at the time when the Mission Animation Center, in an open competitive way won for the third consecutive time a government Funds of 400 000,00 PLN (100 000,00 Euro) for development projects in Angola. This year the funds were granted for “Education, prophylaxis, diagnostics and medical care of HIV/AIDS and TB (Tuberculosis) patients at Kifangondo in Angola”. Though won by the Mission Animation C enter the project is being carried out by dr Waclaw Nahorski with his medical team from the Medical Tropical Institute at Gdynia and our SVD confreres and SSpS sisters in Angola.
On the behalf of the Society and the province the award received Fr. Ireneusz Piskorek, the provincial superior accompanied by Fr. Waldemar Kus, the director of the Mission Animation Center.
