Dear Br. Alfons,
I thank you for inquiring about Franz Helm. He is doing better. Thank you so much for your prayers.
On Friday 18th he had the operation (transplantation of the liver) which lasted from 4 am to 3 pm.
The fourth day after was very critical (problem with the kidneys and later pneumonia). He was put into an artificial coma. Last Thursday he was again addressable.
Yesterday he was taken out of intensive care. He is improving, but it takes time. I visited him yesterday, but it is tiresome for him, especially when he gets too many visits.
His voice is still very weak; he needs all his strength to recover. But he is confident and from the 21st floor of the General hospital in Vienna he can again look towards St. Gabriel's.

Lieber Fr. Toni Pernia,
Saludos de Viena. El Jueves por la noche llegó un higado al Hosp. Central de Viena y lo implantaron a Franz Helm ayer (Viernes). La operación fue un exito, pero ahora empieza el pós-operatório que será muy largo.
Si el cuerpo no rechaza el nuevo organo podemos tener muchas esperanzas.
En nuestra comunidad se hace en estos dias una NOVENA a nuestro Santo Fundador. A las 20,00 la comunidad pide su intervención y ayuda. Es impresionante ver como esta oración nos mantiene unidos en la misma fe.

P. Franz Helm. Egli lavorava per alcuni anni in Brasile ed ultimamente era
rettore di San Gabriele in Mödling (OES).
Per problemi di salute si è ritirato un po' e negli ultimi mesi ha dovuto soffrire una vera 'via crucis' negli ospedali di Vienna. Fu sottoposto ad un'intervento chirurgico, ma ci voleva un bel po' di tempo prima che i medici scoprissero una grave malattia del fegato.
Adesso, P. Helm è ricoverato in un'ospedale di Vienna ed aspetta un trapianto del fegato. Però, la sua condizione generale di salute è così grave che i medici dubitano se egli possa sopravivere un tale intervento.
