Bénédiction de la chapelle St. Arnold Janssen

maginez une nouvelle chapelle, une nouvelle église ou institution dédiée à St Arnold Janssen, bénie le 15 janvier de chaque année! Quel fait formidable dans une perspective missionnaire?

Et cela s'est passé encore dans l'archidiocèse de Lomé, Togo, le 15 janvier 2005. Une nouvelle chapelle et la toute première dans l'archidiocèse de Lomé a été dédiée à St. Arnold, notre Saint Fondateur. La chapelle est située à environ 30 km de Lomé dans le village de Dekpo-Bokloti. Elle a été bénie par Mgr Michael Blume, SVD, le nouveau nonce apostolique au Togo et au Bénin. L'archevêque de Lomé, Mgr Philippe Fanoko Kpodzro, a concélébré l'Eucharistie avec lui marquant ainsi la solennité de la circonstance. Dans son homélie, l'Archevêque de Lomé a fait des éloges d'Arnold Janssen et de ses premiers missionnaires Allemands, envoyés par le Fondateur de son vivant, au Togoland vers la fin du XIXe siècle. Dès leur arrivée, ils ont commencé l'évangélisation de la région de Togoville au bord du Lac Togo.

La chapelle actuelle, en l'honneur de notre Fondateur, est située aussi au bord du même Lac Togo, mais de l'autre côté. Voyez-vous quel beau retour aux racines même?!

Le président du Conseil paroissial a remercié notre confrère, le P. Marian Schwark, pour ses efforts envers leur communauté. En effet, il y assure les services pastoraux chaque week-end et c'est lui qui a aidé dans la construction de la chapelle, située au bord du lac. Plusieurs prêtres et confrères ont participé à la cérémonie, qui fut suivie d'un repas festif dans l'enceinte de la maison du chef de village.

ust imagine a new chapel, a new parish church, some new institution, dedicated to Saint Arnold Janssen on the 15th of January of every passing year! Wouldn't that be really great from a missionary perspective?

It so happened again here in the archdiocese of Lomé, Togo, on January 15, 2006. Yet another chapel, the first in the archdiocese of Lomé, was dedicated to the memory of our Saintly Founder. The chapel is situated at the village Dekpo-Bokloti, about 30 km from Lomé city. The chapel was blessed by Mgr Michael Blume, SVD, the new Apostolic Nuncio to Togo-Benin. The Archbishop of Lomé Mgr Philippe Kpodzro, who was also present to mark the solemn occasion, paid great tributes, in his homily, to Arnold Janssen and the first SVD German missionaries sent by him to Togoland of those days, at the end of the 19th century. Those missionaries had planted the first church at Togoville, on the banks of the Lake Togo... what's more, the present chapel, in honour of the Founder, is also on the Lake Togo, of course, on the other far end. So you get the connections?!

The president of the parish council thanked profusely the efforts of our confrere Father Marian Schwark, who assures pastoral services in that particular village community every weekend, for having helped them construct such a beautiful church on the lake-front. Couple of other SVD confreres too participated at the liturgical ceremonies on that day, which were followed by a festive lunch in the house of the village chief!
