ate afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 6, the generalate was informed by telephone that our confrere Fr. NERIO LEONI had just died in the hospital at Arco, a few kilometers from our house in Varone, Italy.

The death notice was duly prepared and sent out by e-mail to the whole Society.

What we did not know then was that some fifteen minutes after all vital signs had stopped and the news of Fr. Leoni’s death had already been communicated to the generalate, his heartbeat and breathing unexpectedly resumed.

We did not immediately send out a notice of this change since Fr. Leoni continues in what the doctors call a deep and ‘irreversible coma’. They told the community that it would be “a matter of hours” until the end, but more than two days have now passed and Fr. Leoni remains in a deep coma.

Please pray for Fr. Leoni as he continues to hover between life and death.

l martes día 6 de noviembre por la tarde, el Generalato recibió por teléfono la información de que nuestro cohermano el P. NERIO LEONI había fallecido en el Hospital de Arco, a unos pocos kilómetros de nuestra casa de Varone, Italia.

La noticia de la muerte fue debidamente preparada y enviada por e-mail a toda la Congregación.

Lo que no sabíamos entonces es que unos quince minutos después de que los signos vitales del Padre Leoni se hubiesen extinguido y después de enviar la notificación de su fallecimiento al Generalato, su corazón inesperadamente comenzó a latir de nuevo.

No enviamos inmediatamente la noticia de este cambio, ya que el P. Leoni continúa en lo que los doctores llaman un profundo e “irreversible coma”. Le habían dicho a la comunidad que era “cuestión de horas” antes de que todo terminara. Pero ya han pasado dos días y el P. Leoni permanece en coma profundo.

Por favor, recen por el P. Leoni en estos momentos en que se encuentra entre la vida y la muerte.
